Eric M. Hill is a great writer and I understand that he's writing about real situations that people deal with, as well as the demonic background that manifests itself in the lives of helpless people. His writing reminds me very much of Frank Perriti. That being said, I could only give it two stars as the descriptions of various sexual scenes were a little too explicit for my taste. Maybe it's me . . . I can't seem to read a book without it turning into a video in my head . . . I just didn't want those images in my mind. I couldn't help but feel that it might be possible to write those particular scenes without so much graphic detail and leave it to people's imaginations. Otherwise, the struggles that humans face with demonic influence are extremely on point. I'm always shocked by the ignorance of Christians I meet regarding the spiritual battle that rages around us every day. With a little modification of the aforementioned scenes, I would have given it more stars.Product details

I was looking for a decent Christian author. I had read myself out of reading material for most of my favorite authors. I read the description of this book because...well because I could get it for free from Unlimited. (Sorry Mr Hill.) I am so very glad I did. If you are a fan of CS Lewis's Screwtape Letters, or if you are a fan of Tosca Lee's DemonA Memoir then you will like me become a big fan of Eric M. Hill also. Not only the story, but the character development, humor, and attention to detail are fantastic. I have learned, been reminded, and understood some of the scriptures I have known for so long even better through reading these books. I had to chuckle though. Mr. Hill if you read this, I never saw your picture or anything until I went looking on for your books so I could write this review. That being said, you look exactly like I picture Jonathan Banks. Coincidence? I imagine you are a lot like him also. I have since been paying for your books and hope you are able to continue this incredible ministry of inspiration for many many more books. (Maybe a prequel to these books about Jonathon and Liz's earlier lives prior to this book?)
I love this book! It is really well written, thought provoking, scary but exhilarating. The characters come off the pages and had me rooting for them (the christians of course). I have gained perspective in some areas and been motived to action in others.
I don't usually highlight lines in a fictional story but I did in this one. Spiritual warfare and prayer are the tools God gave us, if we don't use them, we can't complain about the results. This book reminded me that I need to "watch and pray without ceasing" for our fight is not against flesh and blood but against powers and principalities not found in Heaven.
I love happy endings and in this case, despite some casualties, good prevailed over evil, just as it it should. The fight will continue until the rapture, but for now, God and His angels won this battle, as they will one day, win the war too.
This author is truly gifted and I look forward to reading the next book in the series.
Too dark for my taste and a lot of detail of rapes and molestation. I didn't finish the book because it was just too dark and depressing. I will say that if you don't mind the graphicness of the book it is well written.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It captured my attention from the beginning and kept me engaged to the very end. The characters were well rounded and the line between good and evil was not divided by a wide gray line. There is a brave and unflinching approach to theatrical and tribulations that even the most devout must face. Without being preachy, it told a story of redemption and a glimpse behind that mysterious curtain into the realm of spiritual warfare, to see the very host of heaven that surround us and to grasp the love and power that is within our grasp if we only have faith.. You want the flawed and struggling christians to find their way, and for evil to be defeated. A gifted story teller.
I was highly impressed with the pace and flow of the story. Mr. Hill created many well described and carefully revealed characters. I had a hard time putting down this book, and look forward to the following books. Some concepts he presented are somewhat dubious (can an angel or demon be "killed", even by an opposing Spirit being?, do the spiritual beings have offices where they might set up pictures and awards?), but I will describe such as literary license. Some aspects of his descriptions are not for young readers, and some themes are not for the same, but are very realistic to the world and circumstances we live in. I appreciate that some issues presented were never clearly dealt with. This allows for future books, true, but is also realistic to our world, where we may simply not get answers. Some aspects were superficially silly (a demon named "Bashnar"... Is it clobberin time?), but aside from that, the author actually is able to pull off character development of a demon.
This is such a great book! I'm not sure what I was expecting, but Bones of Fire was so much more! It reminds me a great deal of the Frank Peritti novel This Present Darkness. I started reading it as a way to pass the day while doing laundry. I wasn't expecting more than a light read. I was pleasantly surprised. This book is not for those who choose to remain "politically correct" within the church. I especially like the description "country club with a steeple" because that is what a lot of American churches have become. This book has awakened a fire in me for God that I thought was long extinguished. Not only is it current, but it is also scripturally correct. You can take this as an entertaining work of fiction or you can glean some warfare lessons. How you read it and what you take away from it is totally up to you. Thank you, Mr. Hill for such an insightful work. I am looking forward to reading more from you, sir!
